A New School Year: 2010-11 Off to a Great Start!

After weeks of preparation, annual upkeep, painting, home visits, and orientation, The Acorn kicked off the school year with visits throughout the day for students new to The Acorn. It is delightful to hear all the happy sounds throughout the classrooms! We look forward to a great school year. Classes start Tuesday, Sept. 7th. Have a good Labor Day weekend.

2010-11 Kindergarten Campout! Lost Maples!

Hey Kinder-friends!

Summer has just begun and it is time to think about next fall! The kindergarten camp out has been scheduled for the weekend of September 24 - 26. This is very early into the school year and will take a little extra planning! Roxanne Brown (Reeve's mom) and Kim Moran (Ben's mom) have graciously planned to head this event. We will plan to have a camp out meeting the first week of school to get started! Please mark your calendar!! The Kindergarten camp out is always a highlight of the year not to mention the wonderful bonding that takes place. We start the weekend as a kindergarten class but leave as a "team" ready to celebrate the rest of the school year together! We hope you will be there!

Week of 517

Theme: Summer

Dramatic Play: Housekeeping

Monday is our Water Day! We'll spend part of our morning inside and finish our day outside with art, bubbles, shaving cream, and water! Please send your child to school wearing an "old" bathing suit, old t-shirt, and waterproof shoes. Please send two towels labeled with names. We'll save one of them to sit on in the car. Please have your child dressed and lathered up with sunscreen at drop-off for the day of fun.

Spanish with Maria is on Wednesday and Music with Mindy is on Friday. We are reading The Twelve Dancing Princesses and Jack and the Beanstalk. We are using giant coffee filters, oil pastels, and making a junk collage in art.

Theme: Obeying God

Dramatic Play: Housekeeping

Bible Story: Lois and Eunice Taught Timothy (2 Timothy 1:1-7)

This week we will hear about Timothy learning Bible stories from his mom and grandma, we will review the Bible stories we've learned this year.

Monday - Water Day

Please send your child to school wearing a bathing suit, t-shirt, waterproof shoes. Please send two towels, labeled with naems). We will save one of the towels to sit on in the car. The last part of the day (2:15 until pickup) will be spent outside on the playground doing fun wet stuff with the Four Day PM and Five Year Old Classes. Shoes must be worn at all times. Flip-flops and crocs are not recommended.

Wednesday - Acorn Spirit Day - Please wear an Acorn t-shirt if you have one.

Show and Tell - The children are asked to bring only one item for Show and Tell. Items of their choice are acceptable with a few exceptions. Toy weapons, etc. are inappropriate, since we don't play with those items at school.

If a pet is the item, please make arrangements with Diana in advance

Spanish and Music

Friday - Last day of school

Our last day of school will be a normal routine so we can just play with our friends.
