Thanksgiving Break:  Our last day of classes before Thanksgiving break is Friday, November 18th.  School will be closed Monday, November 20th, through Sunday, November 26th, for Thanksgiving Break.  Classes resume Monday, November 27th.

Parent Conferences The teachers have started scheduling parent/teacher conferences.  In order to accommodate all families, dates will extend into mid-January.  Please make arrangements for your child at your appointed conference time, as there will be no childcare available at school.  Some families might take advantage of scheduling back to back conferences, so they can take turns watching the children on the playground.

Coffee with the Directors
for Parents New to
The Acorn!  Three time slots, so you can attend one while your child is in school.
Mon., Nov. 6: 9:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m.
Tues., Nov. 7: 9:00 a.m.

Come and meet other new Acorn parents, learn more about the school, ask questions, and find out how you can be involved. We will talk about upcoming events, Acorn policies, our activities, explain the annual Spring Fundraiser, and answer all of your questions.

New parents always appreciate the opportunity to get to know their child’s school better and to have a chance to ask questions.  Please plan to join us!

As weather and temperatures vary, please dress your child appropriately, as we will be playing on the playground each day. Please label your child’s outer wear with a name tag.  Thanks!

Planning Ahead…The last day of school before Christmas vacation will be Wednesday, December 20th.  As a reminder, there is NO Wednesday lunch bunch on that Wednesday.
During this season of holidays, most families are busy shopping for gifts; and many take advantage of the ease of online shopping. If you shop Amazon.com, please consider logging in through smile.amazon.com/ and designating Acorn A School for Young Children as your recipient.  There is no additional cost for you to participate.  The sum total of everyone’s shopping on Amazon will add up for The Acorn. So please remember to log in through “smile”.  Thanks! And please feel free to share this information with your extended families. What an easy way to help The Acorn!  Thanks!

Acorn Reunion Campout! Friday evening through Sunday, April 6-8 at Lost Maples! Open to any Acorn family, past or present.  $40 reserves your spot. Bring payment into the office. First come first gets the space. We hope you can join us for this very special event! Call for more information!

We are getting a head start on the season of giving this year to accommodate our favorite San Antonio Elf’s delivery schedule!  Once again, all the classes will collect toys for the Elf Louise Project.  This wonderful community service project is particularly dear to us since Elf Louise is an Acorn parent whose son Christopher graduated from The Acorn in the late 80’s.  We encourage you to help your child select at least one “like new” toy in very good condition from home that he/she has outgrown or no longer uses, or bring a new purchased toy, to give to a less fortunate child that otherwise might not receive a Christmas present.  The “Elves” have stipulated only new stuffed toys be shared, as one previously loved cannot be cleaned properly.  We will accept items up through Tuesday, December 12th.

Fundraiser Kickoff Coffee: Friday, January 12th  in the Meeting and Conference Rooms.  Plan on stopping in during school hours to visit and pick up your Fundraiser Packet.
Tickets and more information coming soon!!!

Festivals, Traditions, Holidays… As many holidays and celebrations approach, at The Acorn we emphasize the spirit of the season.  For Halloween, classes have pajama days rather than wearing costumes. We talk about real and pretend, and Rich shares his famous dry ice experiments!

For Thanksgiving, we talk about things for which we are thankful.  The children participate in preparing their own class feast, and we talk about the change of seasons,  fostering a love of nature.

At Christmas, we talk about how we can show kindness and love to one another. We may make cards to share with a nursing home, and plan “surprises” for our parents.  Family traditions are shared, to build an appreciation for all cultures. If you have any family traditions that you might share with your child’s class, please let us know!

Throughout these fun, full, busy months, it is important to keep a regular routine; children rely on a predictable schedule. So while we will have special theme days, snacks, and celebrations, we try to keep things as “normal” and calm as possible.

We look forward to sharing these good times together!

Rich, Jo, and Wendy
