The Acorn is a private, non-profit corporation with 501 (c) (3) charitable status, offering preschool and Kindergarten programs.  The school was established in 1980 by Rich and Kitty Lange.   Housed in a wonderful home which was built in 1918, The Acorn provides a warm, nurturing environment for its students.  The downstairs is classroom to the Two Day Morning TTh, Three Day Morning MWF, and Four Day Afternoon Classes.  The upstairs is classroom to the Two Day MF, the Three Day Morning TWT, and the Three Day Afternoon Classes. The upstairs new wing is classroom to the Five Day Morning and Five Year Old Classes.  The Kindergarten wing, which was added on in 1993, is home to our Acorn Kindergarten Class.  Our shaded playground offers a safe place for children to run, climb, swing, ride wheel toys, garden, play in our vast sand area, and make many science and nature discoveries.  Children learn through play, and in our well-planned environment each child has the opportunity to do just that!  Happy sounds abound as they interact, create, and explore.  In our “Curriculum” page is more information about the classroom experience at The Acorn.

The Acorn relies on donations and our annual fundraiser to offset our annual operating deficit.  Contributions are gratefully appreciated!

Parents interested in enrolling their child must attend an information tour of the school before being eligible to enroll.  Enrollment day for new families is in February, by appointment. For more information regarding enrollment, please access the “FAQ page”.  Thanks!

2017 - 18 Enrollment Information

The Acorn is a half-day educational preschool and Kindergarten offering morning and afternoon classes to children from 2 years 9 months old through kindergarten (age six). Children enrolling in school for the 2017-18 school year should have their third birthday before December 31, 2017. Children turning 3 next September, October, November, or December, are eligible for enrollment in either of the 2 day morning classes only. Please note that in providing a balanced age grouping in this mixed age class, we enroll a limited number of fall/January birthday children into school each year. We also try to balance each of the other mixed age classes by age and gender. Preschool classes have either a 5/1 or 6/1 ratio, while our kindergarten has 3 teachers for 20 children.

Parents interested in enrolling their child must attend a tour of the school in order to be eligible to enroll. Tours are held three times a year, in the fall, in January, and spring. If a parent is shown the school at any other time, they will be asked to attend the next formal tour. On the tour parents will be given an application, which needs to be submitted along with an application fee to remain active on the waiting list. Application forms are also available on our website.

At enrollment time, there is a $300 enrollment fee for each student. Tuition for each class is listed below, and in addition, there are annual fees which cover field trips and other activities, supplies, nutritious snacks and cooking activities, etc. There are also Music and Spanish fees for the teachers of these special programs in all classes, except the Two Day morning classes. The Kindergarten and Five Year Old Classes also include a fee for our special art teacher. All annual fees, along with the first month’s tuition are due by Mon., July 10th.

Payments may be made by check, cash, or credit card. Credit card payments need to be made in the office; no payments will be taken by phone or online. A discount on tuition only will be given for cash or check payment (detailed on back). Anyone who withdraws their child for any reason after enrollment, the enrollment fee is not refundable. Also, any payments for tuition, annual fees, etc., are non-refundable. There will be no refunds of tuition due to illness, family vacations, school cancellations, etc.
